ST. ALBANS — An Enosburg Falls man has been charged with embezzling more than $200,000 from the Walmart here.
According to the St. Albans Police Dept., Ronald Downes, Jr., 42, has been charge with felony embezzlement for allegedly taking money from a machine used to count, store and dispense cash while performing maintenance on it.
SAPD was alerted to the possible embezzlement on Feb. 3, when officers were told the cash recycler, the machine mentioned above, was missing large amounts of cash.
Investigators determined more than $200,000 had been taken from the cash recycler between late 2017 and early 2018, the SAPD reports. Following a lengthy investigation, which included the use of surveillance video and the assistance of Walmart Asset Protection, officers arrested Downes.
He is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Superior Court on June 18 to answer the charge against him.
