BURLINGTON- Patricia Lynne Bettinger passed away at the University of Vermont Medical Center Oct. 2, 2018.  She was born 63 years ago in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania and moved with her family to Vermont in 1967.

She graduated South Burlington High School and the University of Vermont, and later in life returned to earn her UVM Master’s Degree in Education.

Patty led an active life and built a career composed of widely varied disciplines.  She created, owned, and operated Clover Clothes for several years, and then transitioned to a career in culinary arts. She was the lead Pastry Chef at Mother Myricks Confectionery in Manchester, Vermont. In 2005 Patty began a new chapter in her life teaching Health, Cooking, and Family and Consumer Science at Bellows Free Academy.

Possessing a keen mind and artistic eye, Patty, was a voracious reader and unofficial consultant to her extended family and friends on all things culinary, decorative, and beautiful.  She was a gardener, expert cook, favorite aunt, and a sewing and knitting professional.   She melded these and other life skills into a potent mixture that she untiringly shared with the students fortunate enough to find themselves in her classes.

Patty was a wise counselor and an eternal optimist who patiently empowered the many people with whom she generously shared her world. A former student and graduate of BFA recently communicated with Patty, thanking her for always offering an open door and a warm welcome, as well as encouraging her to feel good about herself while gently encouraging her to be her best.

Patty will be greatly missed, but her guidance, teachings, and compassionate heart will live on in all of us who were blessed to know and love her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Bettinger of Saint Albans, her sister Allison Sassano, Walter Sassano, nephew Harrison Sassano, and niece Laurel Sassano of Cold Spring N.Y., and Karen MacGeorge of Cornish Maine.

Family and friends wish to thank UVM Medical Center, McClure 6th floor staff, Dr. Cheung Wong MD, and all the other loving health care professionals who cared for Patty.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Patty’s life will be held at a later date.  Donations in honor of Patty may be made to the Franklin County Animal Rescue, https://www.franklincountyanimalrescue.org/  in Saint Albans Vermont. Online condolences may be made at www.creamationsocietycc.com or send flowers to someone in your family and tell them how much you love them.
