MRUSD Corner

Dear Maple Run Families:

I know you have been eager for answers about what your child’s routines will look like once school begins. We know how important it is that students and teachers return to school this fall. We also realize that families have various needs and concerns. Our family survey results are still coming in, and at this point the initial results reflect one third of families plan to send their child to school, another one third will stay home and the final one third still needs more information to make a decision. Since this survey was sent, there have been some decisions made by both the State, school districts in our region, and locally within our own school district.

To start the school year, MRUSD, along with all 16 school districts, covering Addison, Chittenden, Grand Isle, and Franklin Counties, who are members of the Champlain Valley Superintendents Association (CVSA), will implement a hybrid instruction model that will include both in-person and remote learning.

In addition, our school district will offer a 100% remote learning option for families.

Hybrid Learning Model

  • Students will be divided into two groups.
  • Groups will attend school in-person two days a week and learn remotely three days a week. We will build off lessons learned this past spring to offer a variety of tasks and support for their remote learning days.
  • Students and staff attending in-person will wear masks and practice physical distancing.
  • Groups will be thoughtfully created so they best support families, including grouping family members from PreK through high school whenever possible.
  • All students will be learning remotely on Wednesdays. We will use this day to provide individualized support to students, engage in professional learning and planning for our staff, and deep clean our buildings.

Remote Learning Only

We are also preparing to offer a remote learning option for families. In these pandemic conditions, it is imperative that we continue to improve our remote systems so that we can be ready to adapt if health data requires a shift to full remote learning again. More information will be available soon.

In the next few weeks our priority is to share an overview of the implementation plans for both learning choices, so that your family has enough information to help make an informed decision as to whether your child(ren) starts school in a hybrid learning environment or in a remote learning only setting.

In addition to the two learning options outlined above, below are the status updates of other critical areas of school operations that need to be in place. School operations updates will be shared in future communications.
