COLCHESTER/COLUMBIA, S.C. — Leonard “Pete” Lampman Jr., 95, died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at the Rice Estate Nursing Home in Columbia, S.C.
Leonard was born on June 4, 1918 in St. Albans, the son of Leonard and Elizabeth (Marquette) Lampman. Leonard was activated to serve in the U.S. Army in 1941, he married Betty Fife on April 1, 1942 in All Saints Catholic Church in Richford, then returned to the war, serving during WWII until 1945. He returned to Vermont, where he worked at Union Carbide.
In 1957, he began working at IBM, retiring in 1983 as a Tool and Die Maker. Leonard was also a member of the American Legion in Vergennes. He and Betty had lived on Alshire Road in Colchester for many years. Following Betty’s death in 2005, he moved to South Carolina.
Leonard is survived by his children and spouses Peter and Tara Lampman of Columbia, S.C., David and Diane Lampman of Hinesburg, Vt., and Linda Dumas of Land O’Lakes, Fla., and by his grandchildren Amy, Alison and Ian and great-grandsons Brent, David and Jacob.
He was predeceased by his brothers Rupert and Robert Lampman, sister Margaret Monaghan and his son-in-law Craig Dumas.
