Kenneth Mark Appel Esq. entered into that good night in the early hours of March 19, 2018, after a raging battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Ken was born on May 24, 1949, in New York City to Jesse and Rose (Boyarsky) Appel, who predeceased him.
He moved to Vermont in 1975, practicing law in Saint Johnsbury and Saint Albans with Vermont Legal Aid. Ken went into private practice in Saint Albans in 1980; he retired from practice in 2016 due to illness.
Ken was loved and beloved by family, friends and clients. He is survived by his wife, Janis Appel; and four children, Gavin (wife Leah), Brendan (wife Sindy), Rachael, and Matthew (wife Megan); along with younger brother Richard; nephew Jesse and niece Sarah. He also is survived by four grandchildren, Holden, Eliza, Caroline and Hudson.
Ken and his family greatly appreciate the support and love provided by caregivers, Nicole, Eric, Tracy and Gigi and the care provided by Home Health Hospice and Saint Albans Primary Care. He will be deeply missed.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Ahavath Gerim Synagogue, 168 Archibald Street, Burlington with interment to follow in Ahavath Gerim Cemetery, 200 Patchen Road (corner of Patchen Road and Fielding Lane), South Burlington. The family will be sitting Shiva at Ken’s home, located at 232 North Main in Saint Albans on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Cure PSP organization at https://www.psp.org to help vanquish the terrible disease.
