PHOENIX, Ore.- On April 25, 2018, in Phoenix, Ore., Carlton Francis Griffin went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Carl was born on April 27, 1934 in Burlington, Vt. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1954. There he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track and was given the nickname Gopher. Carl played in the first Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl in 1954 and scored the only touchdown for Vermont. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving almost four years, Carl followed his family to California. There he met and fell in love with Mary Margaret McFarland. Carl and Mary were married on Aug. 17, 1963.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Belle (Underwood) and Francis Griffin, and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Mike Biolchino. He is survived by his son, Lloyd Griffin, and his wife, Kim, of Saugus, Calif., his daughter, Anna Redding, and her husband, Jim, of Phoenix, Ore. and his brother, Melvin Griffin, and his wife, Mary Ann, of Pennsylvania. Carl is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being made by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 11, at Eagle Point National Cemetery Chapel at 2 p.m.
