SWANTON — Valerie Faith Lockerby, age 60 years, died early Monday morning, Oct.14, 2013, at her Liberty Street residence with loving family at her side.
Valerie has resided in the Franklin and Grand Isle County area for most of her life and has been a resident of Swanton Village for the past 27 years.
Born in Detroit, Mich., on June 8, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Virginia (Ficaro) Cummings. She graduated from Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans and on Jan. 23, 1973, was married to James Cecil Lockerby who survives her.
Always a very kind, loving, supportive and devoted caregiver, she worked 27 years at the Giordano Manor Community Care Home in Swanton until illness forced her to retire. Valerie enjoyed photography, crocheting, working in her flower gardens and riding motorcycle with her husband James.
In addition to her husband of 40 years, she leaves her daughter, Amy Lockerby, and friend Jeff Desrochers; her son, James Lockerby, and his friend Lauren Pilon, and two grandchildren, Lexi and Caylee Lewis, all of Swanton. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Randy Cummings and his wife, Rhonda, of Swanton, Sherri Shedrick and husband, George, of Alburgh, Robin Lockerby and husband, Lynn, of St. Albans and Robert John Cummings and wife, Julie, of Milton as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by an infant sister, Frances Ann Cummings in 1961.
Valerie’s family would like to express their sincerest thanks to Roxanne Ladabouche, Melinda Hulbert and Franklin County Home Health Nurse, Kate for all of their professional care, love and support during Valerie’s illness.
At Valerie’s request there will be no public calling hours. Funeral Services and Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
