SHELDON — A Sheldon teenager is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Duffy Hill Road on Thursday.

Police said Friday that Tyler Rheaume, 16, died from injuries sustained in the accident. Rheaume was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care, where he died early Friday morning, according to the Vermont State Police.

VSP responded to the crash at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. According to an earlier police report, Tristan Cameron, 17, of St. Albans, lost control of the 2000 Volkswagen Passat in which Rheaume also was riding. The car was hit in the passenger side by an oncoming six-wheel Freightliner farm truck.
Police said speed was considered a factor in the accident as the investigation went forward. At the time of the crash, the weather was clear and the dirt and gravel road was dry.

According to the report, Rheaume wasn’t wearing his safety belt.

Criminal charges may result as the investigation continues, according to VSP. The investigation continues with a crash reconstruction team at the location of the accident to determine the speed of the vehicles involved.

An autopsy will also take place in the near future, police said.

The driver of the truck, Jason Marchand, 43, of Alburgh, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured.
