Green Mountain Power line worker Casey O’Brien looks on Wednesday as St. Albans Town Educational Center eighth graders Race Rucki, right, and Haven Zada, left, try to pick up tools with protective rubber gloves on.

All were participating in Career Day yesterday afternoon, where fifth through eighth grade students gained exposure to a number of different professions including law enforcement, business, cosmetology and even archery.

While the event is intended to be educational, it’s undeniably fun, too, said organizer and SATEC guidance counselor Linda Werner. Students, for instance, ate slices of pizza while listening to advice on opening a food business and got to sit in a St. Albans Police Department cruiser and sound its sirens.

“The kids love it,” said Werner.
