ST. ALBANS — Richard E. Colby Jr. died peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Burlington on Feb. 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Richard E. and Genevieve (Brown) Colby. Richard was 71 years old.

Richard had many interests and hobbies during his lifetime. Being a volunteer firefighter at St. Michael’s College and Colchester Fire Dept. were among his favorite. He played cards with his family, winning often. For several years he was a cab driver in the Burlington area.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara (West) Colby of St. Albans; his daughters, Stacey Meunier of Swanton, Shelby Colby and Sara Bushey both of St. Albans; his grandchildren, Lillian, Marliee, Mikaela and Madelyn and also his brothers, Michael Colby of So. Burlington and David and Robert Colby both of Burlington.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally (Wimble) Colby.

A special thank you to the Franklin County Home Health Staff for the care and support given to Richard and his family during his illness.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, May 19, 2014, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 so Main St, St. Albans.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Church on Lake Street. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478. Messages of condolence to Richard’s family are welcome at
