COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Richard D. Bushey Sr., died March 4, 2016 at his home in Colorado Springs, with his wife of 30 years, Nancy, and three of his seven children at his side. He was 87 years old.

Richard was born Dec. 2, 1928 in Sheldon Springs, Vermont, one of eight children born to Vinnie and Marion (Tatro) Bushey. He married Lea Larose and raised seven children in St. Albans and later, Fletcher. He was widowed in 1984 after nearly 30 years of marriage. He married Nancy Teague in 1986.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, leaving high school to serve at the end of World War II from 1945 to 1948 and then again as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1951 during the Korean War.

He worked at Fonda Container for 33 years and after retirement, Richard and Nancy enjoyed traveling in their RV and spending time with their grandchildren. They lived for several years in Alaska. He typically wore his suspenders and fishing hat everywhere, accompanied by his Shih Tzu dog, JJ Bear.

Richard is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters, Marie St. Pierre and her husband, Gene, Rose Lawton and husband, Gary, Jeanne Wilson and husband, Dave, Lea Fairbanks and husband, Steve, Patty Allard and husband, Greg; sons Rick Bushey and wife, Alysia, and Andy Bushey and wife, Shana; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brothers Ronald Bushey and wife, Evelyn of Concord N.C., Norman Bushey and wife, Anne of St. Albans, and sister, Marilyn Main, of Ashaway, R.I.; and sister-in-law, Jan Bushey, of St. Albans. He was predeceased by brother, Carlton and sisters, Jan Sumner and husband, Bill, and Betty Gignac and husband, Gilles, of Connecticut, and brother-in-law Clyde Main.
