SWANTON/HIGHGATE — Richard Alan Leahy, age 77 years, a longtime resident of the Swanton and Highgate areas, died early Thursday morning, Nov. 21, 2013, at his residence in Highgate Center.

Born in St. Albans on Aug. 18, 1936, he was the son of the late George and Mable (Kenyon) Leahy. As a professional painting contractor he owned and operated his own business for more than 40 years. He will be remembered as an excellent horseshoe player winning many trophies over the years.

He was married to Dorothy (Dot) Leahy for over 13 years.

Survivors include his son, Richard E. Leahy and his fiancée, Rose Duprey, of Highgate Center; two step-children, Michael and Debbie Reynolds of Conn.; two sisters, Joanne Hart of Vt. and Sandra Schramm of Maine; one brother, George Leahy of Maine and a very dear friend and chess player Leo Robarge who will miss him dearly.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Uhazi and Marilyn Tynes and two brothers, William Leahy and John Eaton.

At Richard’s request funeral services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
