SWANTON — Noella Marie Fournier, age 85 years, a lifelong resident of the St. Albans and Swanton areas, died early Friday evening, May 27, 2016, at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.

Born in Burlington on Aug. 16, 1930, the daughter of the late George and Zolaride (Breault) Loyer. She graduated from Holy Angels Parochial School and on Nov. 23, 1950, was married to Rene J. Fournier, who survives her.

Noella was a very faith-filled and devoted Roman Catholic. She was a longtime member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary – St. Louis Parish, often attended daily Mass, volunteered in the parish Religious Education Program and was a member of the Nativity Ladies of St. Anne. She also participated in several Home Dem groups and the Boy Scouts of America.

Following high school graduation, Noella went to work for New England Telephone as an operator and later was employed by Doolin’s Department Store. She loved children, also working several years for Snoopy’s Day Care in St. Albans. Noella also worked for a time with her daughter-in-law, Tara, at Hog Island Organics. She enjoyed traveling around the world with her husband, Rene, and during one of their excursions met President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalyn, at a special White House luncheon.

In addition to her husband Rene, Noella is survived by seven children and their spouses: Lou Ann and Jean-Luc Corbeil of Northport, Fla., Earl and Susan, Roy and Kathyrn, Rene G. and Cathy, Paul and Tara and Raymond and Betsy, all of Hog Island, and Molly and Michael Wilaby of Allen, TX; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother-in-law. Warren Fournier of Swanton; special and very dear cousins, Mr. and Mrs. William Gillis of Erwin, Tenn. as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Noella was predeceased by two grandsons, Nicolas G. in 2007 and William Earl in 2016; a very special sister, Margaret Irish and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

The Fournier family would also like to extend their sincerest ‘Thanks’ to the Doe family and the entire staff of Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford for all of their love, support and professional care shown to Noella and her family over the past several years.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Luke P. Austin will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Fournier family lot in the West Swanton Cemetery.

Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Father Austin will conduct a vigil service Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. and will remain after for private confessions.
