Town’s tax rate rises 2.42 cents

ST. ALBANS TOWN — The total tax rate for St. Albans Town residents for next year will be $1.4726, that is the rate charged per hundred thousand dollars of assessed value.
Last year’s rate was $1.4484, making the increase 2.42 cents.
The town tax rate was up 0.6 cents. However, the cost of covering the state education tax for groups and individuals who have received voter-approved tax exemptions adds almost a cent to the tax rate. The amount being covered is $80,261.
Those receiving the tax break are 31 disabled veterans who are exempt from paying taxes on $30,000 of their property value, Northwestern Counseling & Support Services, Hard’ack (recreation area) and Franklin County Home Health.
The education tax rate for homestead residents, as set by the state, is 1.3307, making their total tax rate $1.4726. For non-residents, the education tax rate is $1.1425, making their total rate $1.6608.
