MARJORIE EVELYN MABRY
Marjorie Evelyn McKenney Mabry of Triangle, Va., died on Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Va. Marjorie was born on May 31, 1914, in Springfield, Mass., to the late Samuel and Myrl Fadden McKenney. She grew up in St. Albans, Vt.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lt. Col. Clarence James Mabry, who died in 1998.
Marjorie is survived by her nephews: Thomas Edward Mabry of Greenville S.C., James Larry Atkinson and his wife, Ann, of Charlotte, N.C., their three daughters, Camille Gibbs and her husband, Clay, Emily Ratliff and her husband, Kevin and Rebecca Atkinson; her niece, Lynne Berry and her husband, Bruce, and their children, Tara McAlister and her husband, Stuart, and Amy Sumner and her husband, Vince.
She was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans, and was a member of the faculty. She attended the University of Vermont and received her commission as a Navy Ensign at Smith College, Northampton, Mass., in 1943. Discharged as a Navy Lieutenant in 1946, Marjorie married Captain Clarence James Mabry USMC.
They built their home and settled in Triangle, Va. She was a dedicated teacher to many students for 22 years at Dumfries Elementary School. Marjorie was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Woodbridge, the Bill of Rights Chapter of the D.A.R., The Colonial Dames, as well as the Retired Teachers Association.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 12 noon at Quantico National Cemetery with military honors. After the funeral she will be interred with her husband.
