CLARA LEIGH ‘SAM’ STEARNS

Clara Leigh “Sam” Stearns passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 5, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
Clara was born May 5, 1945, in Newport News, Va. She was predeceased by her parents, Roy Ashby and Georgia Mae (Murray) Richardson, and also by her husband, Robert Alan Stearns.
Clara was an avid bowler and Internet enthusiast. She enjoyed reading science fiction, needlepoint and was an expert at trivia. For the majority of her working life, Clara was employed as a bookkeeper and had been associated with NORCO Auto Supply in Williston and later for NAPA Auto Supply in Virginia, until illness forced her to retire in 1988.
She leaves her daughters, Amy Parker and her husband, David, of Alburgh, and Deborah Mae Stearns of Starksboro, Vt.; three grandchildren: Alicia Byrne of Waterbury, Danielle Parker of Champlain, N.Y. and Jade Phillips of Alburgh; three great-grandchildren: Hailey Parker, Jacob Parker and Jaiden Champagne; one brother, James Richardson and his wife, Carol, of Newport News, Va.; a sister-in-law, Brenda Meneely of New Harbor, Maine; one niece, four nephews; and a beloved family friend, Lillian LeBreton of Sarasota, Fla.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 11 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend C. Andrew Chrysler, pastor of God’s Little Brown Church in South Alburgh, will officiate. Interment will take place later in Ryegate, Vt. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 a.m.
