SWANTON — Maynard C. Rogers Jr., 85, died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, surrounded by his loving family.

Maynard was born in Colchester on Feb. 13, 1930, the son of Maynard and Jennie (Martell) Rogers.

He graduated from Saint Anne’s Academy in 1948 and married Laurette Roussin on Nov. 24, 1951.

He had worked at the Fonda Container Co. in St. Albans until 1962, when he bought the family farm. He was a selectman in Swanton for six years and a member of the St. Albans Co-op Creamery for many years.

He enjoyed gardening, especially growing pumpkins, producing maple syrup and being in the woods.

Maynard loved his family who survive him, his wife Laurette of 64 years; his children Maynard Rogers III and his wife, Carol of Swanton, Ronald Rogers and his wife, Cheryl of St. Albans, Teresa Urban and her husband, Bill of Easton, PA, Jean Rainville and her husband, Jacques of Highgate, Richard Rogers and his wife, Penny of Swanton, and Jennie Boudreau and her husband, Ronald of Sheldon; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and a grandson on the way. He is also survived by two sisters Martha Tarte and husband Normand of Swanton; Peggy Bechard of St. Albans; foster brothers James Haylette and wife, Jane, and Roger Haylette; his brother-in-law Don Manchester, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his foster sister Janice Manchester and brother-in-law Germain Bechard.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral and Cremation Center in Milton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Albans.

Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
