GEORGIA — Matthew E. McGinn, 42, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, Jan. 19, 2017 at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
Matt was born on Feb. 15, 1974 in St. Albans, the son of E. Michael and Joanne (Benoit) McGinn. He was a 1992 graduate of BFA – St. Albans and attended Maine Central Institute Prep School. Throughout school, he enjoyed sports, especially football and hockey.
In his earlier years, Matt was employed by Burton Snowboard and Ben & Jerry’s and currently by N.Y. Pinstripes, Inc./FedEx.
Matt loved his family and friends more than anything. Spending summers on the lake and camping were among his favorite pastimes but nothing brought him more pride than watching his family of young athletes from the sidelines, cheering them on over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Raleigh) McGinn, whom he married on Aug. 19, 2000, and his four children, Malone (15), Maren (13), Marah (7) and Matthew, Jr. (6) of Georgia, Vt. Also, he is survived by his parents, E. Michael and Joanne B. McGinn; his sister, Megan McGinn; mother-in-law, Doris H. Raleigh; siblings-in-law and their spouses, David and Kathleen Raleigh, Robin and James DeRose, Todd & Stephanie Raleigh, Matthew and Michelle Raleigh and Joseph and Jennifer Raleigh; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and the “Georgia Boys,” Brent Boudreau, Cubby Gilman, Chris Pigeon and dear friends, Keane Yandow and Nate Pearo.
Matt was predeceased by his brother, Michael Edward McGinn; sister Melissa McGinn Sullivan; brother-in-law, Richard Sullivan; his father-in-law, Robert B. Raleigh and a brother-in-law, John R. Raleigh.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 45 Fairfield Street in St. Albans. The Rev. Henry P. Furman will celebrate the Mass. Private family interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in St. Albans.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. in St. Albans on Monday, January 23 from 4 to 7 p.m.
