ST ALBANS — Marylee Eliza Russell Rose, 89, formerly of Vergennes and Monkton, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Franklin County Rehab Center in St Albans.

Marylee, the only child of the late Lee Nathan and Mary Eva (Miles) Russell, was born April 15, 1926, the third generation born on the family farm in Monkton.

She was married June 18, 1949, to Forrest S Rose who predeceased her in Jan. 2015. She is survived by two sons, Dr Quentin F Rose & his wife Cathy of St Albans, and Bryan L Rose & his wife Kathy of Essex; four grandchildren and their families: Kerry & Joe Nicikowski, Zachariah & Alexander of Benbrook, TX; Scot & Brenda Rose of South Burlington, Melanie & sons Donavan and Jordan, and Rachelle; Colin Rose of Monkton, Eligh & Ember; and Megan Rose of Greensboro.

She graduated from Richmond High School in 1942 at the age of 16, and from the University of Vermont in 1946. Following graduation, she worked at the UVM library, where she met Forrest, a young veteran attending UVM on the GI bill.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, playing games, archery and fishing, family history and genealogy. She was a past member of the Society of Friends, a lifetime member of the Vermont Society of Mayflower Descendants and Rokeby Museum, and a member of the Rose Family Association. She played piano for Sunday school at the Congregational Church when her children were growing up. Her frequent letter and card writing helped maintain connections to numerous relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank Pillsbury Manor Assisted Living in South Burlington and Franklin County Rehab in St Albans for their kindness, compassion and excellent care.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Oct. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home, 48 S Maple Street in Vergennes. Graveside service will be Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Monkton Boro Cemetery with reception to follow at the Vergennes Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Russell Memorial Library, 4333 State Prison Hollow Road, Monkton, VT 05469.
