HIGHGATE CENTER — Marcus Vincent Raymond, age 86 years, died early Monday morning, Aug. 10, 2015, in The University of Vermont Medical Center with loving family at his side.
Born in Swanton on, May 5, 1929, he was the son of the late Constant and Ila May (Curtis) Raymond. He attended Swanton schools and on, Oct. 6, 1956, was married to the former Madeline Messier who survives him.
Marc faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Era and was honorably discharged as a Sargent on Oct. 2, 1955. He was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 St. Albans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton.
For more than 30 years Marc was employed by the Union Carbide Corporation in St. Albans. He was an active member of the Highgate community and a founding member of the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department, serving several years as Fire Chief. He also participated as a member of the Highgate Zoning Board. He was a longtime member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary / St. Louis Parish.
In addition to his wife Madeline of 59 years, Marcus leaves his son, Michael of Highgate Center; his daughter, Susan Ziccardi of Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Raymond also of Highgate Center; grandchildren, Nickolas, Jessalyn and Aaron; a sister-in-law, Emma Raymond of Burlington as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins including a very special niece, Gwen Greene and her daughter Corey of Ft. Myers, Fla.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, 176 Lamkin St. Highgate Center. The Rite of Committal and Interment with military honors will follow at the Raymond family lot in St. Louis Cemetery.
Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Father Austin will conduct a vigil service at 6:45 p.m. and remain after for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
