HIGHGATE — A local man has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, following a shooting on Sunday evening.

According to a statement from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Akers shot Joshua Many in the leg at around 8:30 p.m. at a residence on Lamkin Street in Highgate.

Many, also a resident of Lamkin Street, was transported to the hospital, treated and released, according to the police.

Akers told police Many had assaulted him. Many has been charged with aggravated assault and housed at the Northwest State Correctional Facility on a probation violation.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned today in Franklin County Superior Court.
