CHADBOURN, N.C. — Mrs. Linda Bittner, age 73, died Sunday, late afternoon, on Jan. 19, 2014, in Lower Capefear Hospice and Life Care Center, in Whiteville, N.C. She was born in Rutland, Vt., on Dec. 7, 1940, and raised in Castleton.
She was the daughter of the late Martin Maddie Sawtell and Cecelia Clara (Gould) Sawtell. Linda was a nurse’s aid for over 17 years. She was also a storeowner from 1983 to 2005, along with her husband, located in Bomoseen, Vt., (pumpkin patch).
She belonged to the Calvary and Christian Fellowship in St. David, Ariz. She loved to sing, square dancing, organ and piano. She lost her battle with cancer, but she had a good outlook on life until the end.
She loved to cook, play jokes, and balanced work, family and travel.
She leaves behind her soul mate, husband Dale R. Bittner, married 1973 to 2014, 41 years. She leaves behind her children, Juanita Bushey of Highgate; Wanda Baker of Rutland; Rhonda Anthony and husband, Art, of Franklin; John Ballantine and wife, Lesa, of Radford, Va.; Cindy Simoneau, of Chadbourn, N.C.; Debbie Howe and husband, Chris, of Keene, N.H.; Martin Bittner of Brattleboro;Alan Bittner of Massachusetts; Mildred Robinson of Chadbourn, N.C.; also kids that have passed are Dale Bittner Jr., Jean Robinson and Toni Bittner. She leaves behind so many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Along with a cousin, Mike Urwin of Bomoseen, Vt., and a sister, Diane Paul of Davenport, Fla. Along with her late brother, Frank Sawtell, of West Rutland, sister Janice Bahr of East Northport, N.Y., and Aunt Bernice Urwin, of Bomoseen, Vt.
She was living in St. David, Ariz., for the past years, until she moved to North Carolina, where she passed away. Burial will be held at a later date at the Lakeland Memorial Gardens, in Lakeland, Fla.
