ESSEX — Mrs. Leatrice K Martin, 77, passed away July 25, 2016, after a long illness of pulmonary fibrosis at her home in Essex with her children by her side. She was born in Burlington on July 3, 1939. She was the daughter to John D. Sr. and Ina (Nichols).

Mrs. Martin was a life-long resident of Vermont. In her 77 years of life, she raised six children on her own as a single mom.

Leatrice also enjoyed many vacations with her longtime friends Madine and David Robinson and was a great lover of bingo and puzzles. After raising six children, she was determined to achieve her diploma and did so in June of 1988. She was employed at York Compactor for 17 years and IBM for five years.

Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Patricia Botala, brother, John D. Nichols Jr., and great granddaughter Brianna Hayley Wells.

Leatrice leaves behind her daughters Ann Wells of North Hero and Loretta Guyer of West Charleston. Her sons, Wallace Martin of Enosburg Falls, Paul Martin of Rutland, Mark Martin of Essex, and James Martin of Rutland, as well as 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will take place on Thursday July 28, 2016 from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd, Burlington VT.
