FAIRFIELD — Lawrence Bruce Bovat, 81, Lillian, Al, passed away Jan. 30, 2016 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Fairfield to Clarence and Laura Bovat on Nov. 30, 1934.

Lawrence retired from the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander with 23 years of service. He served in the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam. After retirement, Lawrence was the owner/operator of several successful businesses in Vermont. In his leisure time, he enjoyed flying his Cesna 150. He and his wife, Betty, traveled extensively in their motorhome before making Lillian their permanent.

Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary E. “Betty”; daughter, Debra (David) Gowans, and grandson, Benjamin of Greencastle, Pa; Janice (Mickey) Pulcini (daughter of Mary E.), and three grandchildren of Gainesville, Fla.; brother, Philip (Susan) Bovat of Highgate; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A private family service with military honors will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.
