ALBURGH – Kathlene “Kathy” M. Giroux, 51, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 2, 2013, after fighting a courageous three-year battle with cancer. She passed at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Kathy was born to George and Blanche (Motcooper) Schaffer on Oct. 2, 1961, in Oakland, Calif. On Dec. 22, 1979, she married Ralph R. Giroux, Sr. in Phoenix, Ariz. The couple moved from Arizona to Massachusetts and finally settled in Vermont fourteen years ago. Prior to her illness, she was employed at Century Arms Manufacturing and NOTCH Health Centers. She will be remembered for her beautiful craft works, especially her painted ceramics and her dollhouses, which she built and decorated. Kathy also enjoyed camping and gardening, and during her illness spent her time working on jigsaw puzzles.

In addition to her husband, Ralph, she is survived by three children; Anni Pigeon and her husband, Dale, of Richford, Katie Giroux and her boyfriend, Paul Souza, of Highgate, and Ralph Giroux, Jr. and his girlfriend, Renee P. Morin of Alburgh; four siblings, Randy Schaffer and his wife, Debbie, Larry Schaffer, Marlene Keys and her husband, Dale, Norene Cooper and her husband, Frank, all of California; one grandchild, Jaxen Pigeon of Richford, one step-grandchild, Kristian Souza of Highgate; her father – and mother- in-law; Richard and Ramona Giroux of Swanton, brother-in-law, Russell Giroux and his wife, Jane; sisters-in-law, Rae Brown and her husband, Scott, all of Massachusetts, Renee Aube and her boyfriend, Brad Beyor, all of Swanton and Victoria Giroux of Alburgh; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew, Jacqueline and Jacques Giroux and great nephew, Ivan Giroux. She was predeceased by her parents, her younger brother and her brother-in-law, Richard F. Giroux.

Visiting hours will be held at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So Main Street, St. Albans on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Marguerite Gage, officiating.
