SWANTON — Joseph James Marchant, Sr. age 66, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at his Abenaki Acres residence.

Born in Newton, Mass., on July 19, 1947, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Myrtle (Colon) Marchant and graduated from high school in Watertown, Mass. In earlier years he had been employed with Wright and Morrissey Construction, Softlite, Comstock Siding and Todd Partlow’s Home Improvement.

He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam Era and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778, Swanton and the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 of St. Albans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rides around the horn and NASCAR Racing.

Survivors include his companion and partner of 32 years, Dorraine Partlow; his children, Joseph Jr. and fiancée Ashley Murray and their daughter Makayla, Jason Partlow wife Shari and their children Ashley and Cassy Martel and Jordan and Alexis Partlow; brothers, Paul and Nancy Marchant and children Paul, Reena, Karen and Don and Alan and Vicki, James and Laura Marchant and children James, Shaun and Kelli; sister, Claire and John Mears and children Dawn and Aubrey Boudreau, Jason, Toby and Wanda Mears; brother-in-law, Robert Bechard; special niece and Goddaughter Deborah and husband Ed Robinson and children, Brandon and Jadyn; mother-in-law, Connie Brow; father-in-law, Thomas Comstock; brothers-in-law, Spencer Cline, Morris Partlow and fiancée Tammy Wells; sister-in-law Darlene Cline and fiancée Randy Gabree as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Paul in 1977; his mother Myrtle in 1988; sister, Marie Bechard in 2012 and a brother-in-law, Todd Partlow in 2012.

A Celebration of Joseph’s life will take place Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778, 8 Merchants Row, Swanton Village. All family and friends are invited.
