ST. ALBANS BAY —  John B. Murray, 85 passed away at home, following a brief illness, Sunday, May 10, 2015, with his beloved family at his side.

Born in Burlington, Vt., on April 22, 1930, John was a son of the late Donald J. and Agnes (Boardman) Murray.  On Oct. 8, 1994, he married the former Linda (Dayment) McCarthy in St. Albans.

John graduated from Middlebury High School in 1948, then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force where he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and recipient of the State Of Vermont Distinguished Service Medal for honorable service during combat.  He first was employed at Champlain Valley Fruit Company and retired after 20 years as sales manager.  For the past 21 years, John was employed as office manager for Rathe’s Auto Salvage in Colchester up to the time of his passing.

He was a member of Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion, The Vermont Retreads Motor Cycle Club and the Addison Goose Club.  John especially enjoyed his family, his dog Mick, hunting, camping and the Boston Red Sox.

John leaves his wife, Linda R. Murray, of St. Albans Bay, his children, Michael Murray of Essex Jct., Deborah Provost and husband, David, of Williston, Marcy Whittle and husband, David, of Shelburne and Stephen Murray and wife, Laura, of Randolph, N.J., the mother of his children, Joyce Murray of So. Burlington, his step children, Kimberly McCarthy Bailey and husband, David, of Apex, N.C., Christopher McCarthy and John McCarthy, both of St. Albans Bay, Kara McCarthy Bond of Raleigh, N.C., 16 grandchildren, Miranda Johnson and husband, Michael, Katie Warner and husband Walter, Adam Provost and partner, Sara Edwards, Nicole Provost, Erin Auer and husband, Chris, Kellie Houston and husband, Dan, Shannon Murray, Erin Schmitt, Andrew Schmitt and Kathleen Schmitt, Carson Bailey, Sydney Bailey, Alivia McCarthy, Isaac McCarthy, Bannon McCarthy and Amelia Bond, six great grandchildren, Bella, Charlie, Cameron, Mia, Max and Alexander, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Albert Kupiec, Virginia Cannovo, Donald Dayment and wife, Yen, Patricia Brangman, and husband, Alan, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.  In addition to his parents, Donald and Agnes Murray, John is predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica Hope Saunders, his brother, Charles Murray and his sister, Elizabeth Kupiec.

To honor John’s request, there will be no visiting hours.  Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service with the sharing of the Sacred Word of the Liturgy on Friday, May 15, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, 246 Lake Street, St. Albans, Vermont, with Rev. Mr. Duane Langlois, Deacon officiating.  Interment will be at the convenience of his family.
