GEORGIA — Irene W. Bliss, a longtime area resident passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her loving family at her side. Born in Burlington on Jan. 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Gladys (Elsom) White. Irene was 86 years old.

On June 8, 1950, in Underhill she married Frederick W. Bliss, who survives her.

Irene was educated in Burlington and then was employed by the Burlington Telephone Company. Upon moving to Georgia she was a longtime bookkeeper for the Georgia Elementary School. She enjoyed traveling to Florida, playing bingo, snowmobiling at Holland Pond with her brother, John and sister, Dorothy and dancing at the “Hen House” in Underhill Center with special friends and family.

Her greatest enjoyment was her family, especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Fred, of Georgia; her daughter, Susan Mitchell, of Georgia and her grandchildren, Kathy (Mitchell) Mathieu and her husband, Travis, of Fairfax and Kevin W. Mitchell and his wife, Elliemae, of St. Albans as well as her great grandchildren, Kayla and Kristen Mathieu and Jared and Kaleb Mitchell. Irene is also survived by nieces and nephews, Linda, Laurie, Eric, Jennifer, Bobby and Debbie; her son-in-law, Dale Drinkwater and special friends, Elaine Salisbury and Pauline Nye.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Drinkwater on April 7, 1978; her brother, John White; sister, Dorothy Senn and special friend, Ted Weatherby.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, Jan. 24, 2015, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. A funeral service will then be held at 1 p.m. in the Heald Chapel with the Reverend Henry P. Furman officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the family lot in Georgia Plain Cemetery.
