GEORGIA — Irene R. Sears a longtime area resident passed away peacefully Monday, May 18, 2015, at the U.V. M. Medical Center.  Born in North Hero on July 14, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rose (Fisher) Martell.  Irene was 87 years old.

On Oct. 7, 1944, in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero, she married Darwin E. Sears, who predeceased her on Sept. 21, 1974.

For many years Darwin and Irene operated a dairy farm on the Mill River Road.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Maryann and her husband, James “Sam” Thompson of Fairfax; her son, Darren and his wife, Amy, of Georgia; her grandchildren, Debbie Peck, Erika Scherer and her husband, Jay, Jamie Boutin and her husband, Kevin, Mariah Sears and Tyler Sears as well as her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Chester and Kimberly Peck, Victoria, Ashley and Elijah Scherer and Summer and Kamrin Boutin.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Sears on July 9, 1972.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 245 Lake Street, St. Albans. Interment will follow in the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
