Shelly B. Wright, 56, a 32-year resident of Swanton and dispatcher for the Swanton Village Police Department, passed away early Nov. 4, 2009, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville, with her loving family at her side. Born on March 11, 1953, in St. Albans, Vt., she was the daughter of Joyce (Rushford) and Roland Greene and the late Gerald E. Bragg.
Shelly attended Peoples Academy in Morrisville and was a 1971 graduate of Craftsbury Academy. She was the first and only dispatcher for the Swanton Village Police Department, retiring after 30 years of service due to her illness. Shelly was a member of the United Christian Society Church of Belvidere Junction, was a member of the Belvidere Cemetery Association, enjoyed camping at Lakeview Campground in Eden with her family and friends, cutting wood, and was a former hunter. She loved being outdoors and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include her son, Jasper “Jay” Wright and his wife, Sandra Stoddard, and their children, Iva and Jesse, of Craftsbury; her mother, Joyce Greene and her husband, Roland, of Craftsbury; her brother, Tim Greene and his wife, Autumn, and their children, Logan and Ryan, of North Wolcott; her sisters, Deborah Clemons and her husband, Gerald, and their daughter, Loressah, of Inwood, W.V., and Wendy Anderson of Craftsbury and her companion, Frank Sforza, of North Wolcott and her daughter, Trina Goodell; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Shelly is also survived by her feline companion, “Prissy.” She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald E. Bragg, on June 5, 2005; and her longtime companion, Donald L. Metivier, on March 20, 2009.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans, with her stepfather, Mr. Roland Greene, officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Belvidere Center Cemetery. Shelly’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the United Christian Society Church of Belvidere, c/o Joyce Greene, Treasurer, 856 Post Rd., Craftsbury, Vt. 05826.
