ST. ALBANS — Mr. Howard A. Willett, age 79, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the home of his son, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in St. Albans, May 23, 1935, son of the late Alfred and Margaret (Moore) Willett. Howard served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1958 to 1960, and returned to serve in the Vermont Army National Guard until 1963. He married Josephine Champan, July 16, 1960. Mrs. Willett died Nov. 10, 1999. Howard worked for the St. Albans Grain Company for 19 years, the H.P. Hood Company for 19 years. He was a part time police officer for the St. Albans Police Department, and retired from many years at the Whey Plant. Howard was an avid fan of Baseball and the Vermont Lake Monsters, UVM Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and Men’s Hockey teams. Howard was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1090.

Howard is survived by his son Brian Willett and his wife, Lynn, of St. Albans, a grandson Zachary Willett, his brother James Willett and his wife, Nancy, of St. Albans, a cousin Suzzane Moore of the Maryknoll Missionary Order in New York, several nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Josephine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Interment will follow in the Willett family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady and Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made in Howard’s memory to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.
