FAIRFAX — A mile or so down the rocky path that is Rocky Ridge Road in Fairfax, lay 14 adoptable greyhounds, retired from their racing days and ready to find a new place to call home.

Formerly located in St. Albans, the non-profit Northern Greyhound Adoptions (NGA) moved its home base to a garage here because it needed to downsize, no longer able to keep a kennel of that scale up and running.

President Sue Gerry, who has volunteered since 2004, said the kennel in St. Albans had 50 to 60 dogs at any given time. “And that’s just not feasible in this economy when you run completely on donations and volunteers,” Gerry said.
