ST. ALBANS – Mr. Gordon E. Raine, age 92, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at his home. He was born in St. Albans, June 30, 1921, son of the late Chauncy and Mary Louise (Richard) Raine. On Feb. 18, 1939 he married Leona Caswell. Mrs. Raine predeceased him May 21, 2000. Gordon served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon returning to Vermont, he was employed with the Central Vermont Railway, as a car inspector, for 37 years. Gordon was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #297, The American Legion Post #1, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #758, and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on his camp, reading newspapers and magazines. Gordon recently spent 13 years traveling with his daughter.

Gordon is survived by his two daughters Paula Mortimer and her husband Bart of Homosassa, Fla., and Mary Sheppard and her husband Paul of Swanton, his grandchildren Kenneth Coons, Steven Coons and fiancé Arinda Redoble, Ronald Coons and his wife Lori, Louise Sheppard and her husband D.J. Turner, Rick Sheppard, Patty Mortimer, and Wendy McGrath and her husband Shawn, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Gordon also leaves his companion Georgie Anna Demar, his former son-in-law Kenneth Coons, and good friend and neighbor Patricia Unwin. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, his wife Leona, his brothers Roland J. Raine, Walter Raine, and sister Glenna Charron.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Sept.11, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel, with Deacon Gabriel Gagne officiating. Interment will follow in the Raine family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
