ST. ALBANS — Mrs. Gertrude Y. “Gert” Cook, age 90, died Monday morning, Dec. 30, 2013 at Northwestern Medical Center.  She was born in Highgate Center April 21, 1923 daughter of the late Henri and Maria (Gagne) Laroche.  Most of her working life she was a housekeeper in private homes, and more recently, for ten years before her retirement, she was with the housekeeping staff at the St. Albans Hospital.  Gert married John F. Cook Sept. 12, 1949.  Mr. Cook died Jan. 17, 1984.  She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit # 758, a former member of the ladies of St. Anne and was an avid bingo player.

Her survivors include her four children and their spouses Linda Trombley of South Burlington, Patricia and Fred Taft of St. Albans Bay, Michael and Cindy Cook of Highgate, Charlotte and Larry Raymond of Enosburgh, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, her brother and sisters, Father Leonidas Laroche of St. Albans, Roseanna Paquette of Highgate Springs, and Marie Ange Belanger of Washington Depot, Conn., many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by her parents, her husband John, their daughter Joyce Cook, her brothers and sisters, Leonard Laroche, Laurent Laroche, Florence Plant, Therese Paquette, Yvonne Moreau, JeanMarie Laroche, Lucienne Lambert, Alice Paquette and Clement Laroche.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church (St. Mary’s) with her brother Father Leonidas Laroche celebrating.  Friends may call at the Brady and Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.  Online condolences may be sent to her family at the funeral home website:   Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.
