MILTON/FRANKLIN — Gerry passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2015 with his loving family and friends by his side.  Gerry was born on Jan. 19, 1950 in Springfield, Mass., and married the love of his life, Lisa on Aug. 7, 1971, who was always by his side.

Gerry spent his life working in the automotive industry and made many good friends in the process.  He also spent over 20 years in the Vermont National Guard and retired as Command Sergeant Major.  In his earlier days, Gerry was very active in coaching Milton Youth Sports and helped establish the Milton Football Program.  Gerry enjoyed woodworking, was an avid golfer, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp, “Whits End” on Lake Carmi.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Lisa, his daughter and son-in-law Krista and Michael Wright of Enosburgh, his grandsons Dawson and Dylan who were his pride and joy, his son and daughter-in-law Dustin and Kate Whitney of Winooski, a sister and brother-in-law Barb and Charles Root of Underhill, step-sister and brother-in-law Carol and Ron Roberge of Colchester, his mother-in-law Anita Murphy, sisters-in-law Daya Redman and Gary Ovitt, Robin Trombley, and brother-in-law Patrick and Faith Murphy all of St. Albans, along with many nieces and nephews.

Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Gorham and Betty Whitney, step-mother Belle Whitney, his father-in-law Robert Murphy and brother-in-law Timothy Trombley. Gerry was loved by many people and will continue to be a guiding light for them in the future.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church.  The family will receive condolences Wednesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans.  Memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent in Gerry’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 150 Cambridge Park Drive, Suite 202, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02140.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at the funeral home website:  Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.
