ENOSBURG — George “Pete” Young Sr., age 79, passed away on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans after a brief illness.
He was born in St. Albans on April 1, 1934 to the late Howard and Judith (Garrett) Young.
Pete was a hard working farmer all of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his family of deer that would come eat from his apple trees; but he didn’t care for them eating from his garden. After retiring from Tom Kane’s farm in Enosburg Pete began to care for his wife, Marguerite, whose health was failing. She passed away in January of 2012; Pete kept himself busy after her passing by tinkering in his tool shop, cutting fire wood and tending to his beautiful garden.
He loved and cherished visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pete also enjoyed meeting new friends, dancing and playing cards at Care Partners and greatly appreciated all the help he received from his friends and neighbors, Reggie and Bev Robtoy.
Pete is survived by two children, Diana Young and her friend Fred Irons of Berkshire and George Young Jr. and his wife, Elaine, of Redding, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Ricky Cronin and his wife, Amanda, of Enosburg and Lance Hilliker and his wife, Nicole, of Alburgh; three great grandchildren, Ryker Cronin and Lilly and Rose Hilliker and his siblings, Ila and Lawrence Juaire of Fairfield, Betty and Roland Benoit of Bakersfield, Richard and Judy Bugbee of Bakersfield, Arthur and Laurie Bugbee of Berkshire and Gladys Cowley of Fayetteville, N.Y. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite Young, on Jan. 24, 2012 and his siblings, Margie Hemingway, Dorothy Howard, Jim, Patty and Lorraine Young.
Pete’s family would like to thank Franklin County Home Health Agency, particularly Sylvia Juaire for the care given to him.
A graveside memorial service will be held for Pete in the spring in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.
