SHELDON — The Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for George O. Stebbins, Jr. was held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Sheldon United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kerry Cameron led the celebration of life. Kathleen Gorton, a daughter of Mr. Stebbins, served as organist. The Sheldon United Methodist Church Choir, joined by some family members, sang “Hymn of Promise”, a favorite of George and his late wife, Thelma. Rebecca Stebbins, a daughter of Mr. Stebbins, and Dale Peloubet sang a duet “Great is Thy Faithfulness” during the service.

Two of Mr. Stebbins’ grandchildren participated with readings; Morgan Kittredge read “Love of the Land” and Ben Gorton read Acts 2: 25-26 and 2 Timothy 4:7-8. Rev. Kerry Cameron delivered the eulogy, which was followed with a time of sharing memories about Mr. Stebbins from several members of the family and friends.

The congregation sang the closing hymn “Auld Lang Syne” and three of Mr. Stebbins’ sons, George, Gregory and Timothy served as urn bearers. Interment for Mr. Stebbins and his wife, Thelma, followed in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.

George O. Stebbins Jr., a lifelong resident of Sheldon, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 in the same home he was born in at the age of 86. The Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls assisted Mr. Stebbins’ family with arrangements.
