GEORGIA — Pete Reed, a lifelong area resident passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015. Born in St. Albans on Aug. 16, 1942, he was the son of the late Earl and Julia (Tatro) Reed of Sheldon.

Pete received an Associate’s Degree in Forestry in Wyoming, followed by 36 years with the State of Vermont as a forester. He also had a 34+ year career with the Vermont Army National Guard; retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman and always enjoyed working his land; whether gardening, logging or simply enjoying the wildlife passing though.

Pete is survived by his wife of 28 years, Doris (Lumbra), of Georgia and their two daughters, Cody Reed of Cambridge and Jenna Reed of Newport Center; his siblings, Roger and Lou Ann Reed, Joyce Cory and her husband, Lyndon, Sally Blair and sister-in-law, Hazel Reed.

Pete is also survived by his father-in-law, Francis Lumbra; his brothers and sisters-in–law, Hilton and Lisa Lumbra, Philip and Allison Lumbra, Jay and Carol Lumbra, and Lynn and Maria Lumbra; many nieces, nephews, close fishing and hunting buddies and his canine companion, Josee. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his brother, David Reed and his mother-in-law, Pearl Lumbra.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Heald Chapel.
