SWANTON — Francis Elwin Hakey (Honeybird), Feb. 26, 1931 – Feb. 19, 2016. Survived by Margaret Hakey, wife of 47 years. Children; Darlene, Dawna, and Glenn. Grandchildren; Misty, Kellie, Elijah, and Katie. Surviving siblings; Darence and Jean Hakey, Sheila and Doug Montgomery, Donnie and Rosemary Hakey, Diane and Terry Bard, John and Tina Hakey, Eli and Dina Hakey, Fred Honsinger, and Linda Loyer.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Eldora Williams, Eunice (Kit) Minckler, Mary Lou Demar, and Joann Johnson.

Francis was known in the Swanton and Quebec area because of his outstanding abilities as a baseball catcher and pitcher. He served proudly in the Navy aboard the USS Beatty. As a young man, Francis enjoyed hunting and fishing, and later deep-sea fishing. He traveled throughout the U.S. via RV, finally settling in Florida.
