Northwestern Medical Center on Wednesday reported that Camdon Alexander, was the first baby born in the Family Birth Center this year. First babies are typically announced in the first week in January, but Camdon needed special care from the University of Vermont Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit. He was born about four weeks early and had some difficulty with fluid in his lungs, said his mom, Sarah Kane, who lives in Sheldon. Shortly after his birth on Jan. 1, he was transferred to UVMMC, but Sarah stayed a short while longer at the NMC as she recovered. She told the hospital’s Kate Laddison, who visited her and took this photo, that being away from her new baby for even that short period of time was incredibly tough, and she is thrilled to now be home with her healthy little boy.
