HIGHGATE — A fire caused extensive damage to a building on Route 78 in Highgate Monday night.

Highgate firefighters were called to the scene at about 11:30 p.m. When they arrived fire was coming out of the roof on the back of the two-story wooden building, according to Highgate Assistant Fire Chief David Rouse.

Franklin and Sheldon firefighters were called in to provide assistance.

The fire was under control in about an hour and crews remained on the scene until 2:30 a.m., said Rouse.

The cause of the fire was undetermined as of press time and fire investigators were on the scene this morning.

The building was the former office of Roy’s Housing, and is owned by Eric and Andre Leduc.
