HIGHGATE — Ephriam “Fagie” Machia, age 78 years, died late Thursday evening, Aug. 27, 2015, in the Northwestern Medical Center with loving family at his side.

Born at home in Sheldon on, July 19, 1937, he was the son of the late William and Ruth (Bovat) Machia. He attended Sheldon schools and on Nov. 29, 1958, was married to Rosalie Pelkey who predeceased him on Dec. 16, 2007.

Fagie spent most of his working life as a dealer in used cars and salvage owning and operating his own business in Highgate for many years. In earlier years he had worked for the former Fonda Container Corporation and H.P. Hood and Sons of St. Albans. He will always be remembered for his love of dancing.

Fagie leaves his four children, Cher Freeman and companion Dan Poissant of Sheldon, Keith Machia and his wife Louise of Highgate, Scott Machia and companion Gina Machia of Highgate and Corey Machia and companion Lela Omiak of Highgate; grandchildren, Christie Freeman and companion Dan Bjounson, Travis Freeman of Highgate, Shawn Machia (Brother Lawrence Machia, Saint Vincent Arch Abbey O.S. B.), of Latrobe, Pa., and Brandy, Hazen, and Anthony Machia all of Highgate; great-grandchildren, Noah Bjounson and Trinity Johnston; sisters and brothers, Helen Kelly of Swanton, William Machia of Sheldon, Jean Durkee of St. Albans and Shirley Tomkins of  Highgate;  two very dear friends, Earl Therrien of Franklin and Russell Paton of Alburgh as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sep. 4, 2015, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, 186 Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Father Luke P. Austin will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Machia family lot in St. Louis Cemetery.

Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday, Sep. 3, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. Father Austin will lead a vigil service at 6:45p.m. and remain after for The Sacrament of Reconciliation.
