ST. ALBANS — Douglas Harold Underwood, a lifelong area resident, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Redstone Villa. Born in Swanton on Sept. 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Harold C. and Ruby (Lawyer) Underwood. Doug was 86 years old.

On Aug. 30, 1953, in Richford, he married Loisanne Stanley who survives him.

Doug was educated in Swanton and then served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Doug was employed for many years throughout the area, including Morton’s Clothing Store, Plant and Griffith Lumber Company, Fonda Container Corp., Barbara’s Bouquets and lastly with the Northwestern Counseling and Support Services. He was a very active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, having served on the church Vestry and was a chalice bearer. He was a Past Master of Franklin Lodge # 4, F&AM, a member of the Champlain Community Chorus and the Franklin County Seniors Art Group.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Loisanne, of St. Albans; their two sons, Michael S. Underwood of Enosburg Falls and Mark D. Underwood and his wife, Victoria Arango, of Shrub Oak, N.Y., as well as his siblings, Gary and Alan Underwood, Silvia Ives, Donna Hill and Peggy Underwood.

In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by a brother, Howard. A special thanks to our thoughtful and caring friends at the Dialysis Unit (FAHC – St. Albans Satellite Dialysis) and at Redstone Villa.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, corner of Fairfield and Church Street. Interment will be at a later date in East Franklin Cemetery.
