JACKSONVILLE, TEXAS —Funeral services for Doug J. Young, age 80, of Jacksonville, Texas, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Burial will follow in Still Waters Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville.
Mr. Young passed away Friday, July 18, 2014 in Tyler, Texas. He was born on May 5, 1934 in Sheldon, Vt. Doug worked as a collections manager for Bealls Department Stores. He was the past President of Jacksonville Rotary Club, former City Councilman, and a realtor. Doug was an avid golfer and instrumental in raising the funds for the building of the Klein Animal Shelter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving Frank and Clara Mae Young; wife, Judy Brown Young; great-granddaughter, Makayla Ahart; brothers and sisters, Larry, Donald, Thelma, Betty, Ruth, Maggie, and Shirlie.
Mr. Young is survived by his son Doug Young II, and wife, Cheryl, of Deer Park, Texas; daughters, Denice Foreman and Al of Cameron, Texas, Donna Bridges and husband, Ernie, of Dayton, Texas, and Margaret Schuster and husband, Kevin, of Pearland, Texas; stepson, Steve Medcalf of Jacksonville, Texas; stepdaughter, Lisa Medcalf Mangino and husband, David, of Sugarland, Texas; sister, Kathleen “Kat” Spears of Vero Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family members. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
