EAST FAIRFIELD – David E. “Freak” Chaplin. Age 51, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 30, 2016.

Dave was born on May 18, 1965 in Meriden, Conn., to the late David Henry Chaplin and Carol- Ann Elizabeth (Hart) Savage.

David was a free-spirited adventurer, and an avid collector of trinkets; he enjoyed working on cars and ‘fixing junk’.  He loved playing cribbage with his ‘Uncle’ Archie and ‘stealing’ everyone’s money at cards.  He enjoyed going trail riding and spending as much time as possible with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. David also truly admired his work family of sixteen years at Frank W. Whitcomb’s where he specialized as a diesel mechanic and known as ‘Freak’.  He was a kind hearted, selfless man who would go above and beyond to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his beloved children, David Edward Williams and his fiancé, Cassi Larock, of Highgate, Desiree Elizabeth Baker and her husband, Kyle Baker, of Highgate Ctr., Elizabeth Mae Cookingham and her significant other, Bradley Stanley, of Fairfax, Kyle Martell of St. Albans, and Chantel Eve Chaplin and her fiancé, Bryce Sartin, of Essex; his companion, Amanda Downing of East Fairfield and her children, Jocelyn Downing, and Bree and Brad Conger; his grandchildren, Avery Sartin, Adam, Emma and Alexis Williams, Haylee Bushey, and Kyiah and Sadie Baker; his siblings, Roberta Baker and her husband, Billy, of Montgomery, Cindy Legault and Wade of Milton, John Chaplin & Lynn and Richard Chaplin all of East Fairfield and Tanya Johnson and her husband Brian of West Swanton; his former wife, Kathy Chaplin of St. Albans and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. David was predeceased by his parents David and Carol, his step-mother Kathleen Schnaubelt, his niece Jessica Chaplin, and his step-son Derek Lewis.

Thank you for all that you have done, Dad. You were a great father and brother.  You gave so much to your family and friends. You will very much be missed and loved. Rest in Peace.
