EAST FAIRFIELD — David E. “Freak” Chaplin, age 51, passed away as a result of being stubborn, always refusing to follow doctors’ orders, and raising hell for nearly five decades on Saturday, July 30, 2016.

Dave was born on May 18, 1965 in Meridan, Conn., to the late David Henry Chaplin & Carol-Ann Elizabeth (Hart) Savage.

He is survived by his beloved children, David Edward Williams and his fiancé, Cassi Larock, of Highgate, Desiree Elizabeth Baker and her husband, Kyle Baker, of Highgate Center, Elizabeth Mae Cookingham and her significant other, Bradley Stanley, of Fairfax, Kyle Martell of St. Albans, and Chantel Eve Chaplin and her fiancé, Bryce Sartin, of Essex; his significant other, Amanda Downing of East Fairfield; step-children, Jocelyn Downing, and Bree and Brad Conger; his grandchildren, Avery Rose Sartin, Adam, Emma and Alexis Williams, Haylee Bushey, Kyiah and Sadie Baker, and Sheldon Downing; his siblings, Roberta Baker and her husband, William Jr., of Montgomery, Cindy Legault and Wade of Milton, John Chaplin and, Lynn and Richard Chaplin, all of East Fairfield; a step-sister Tanya Johnson and her husband, Brian Johnson, of West Swanton; his former wife, Kathy Chaplin of St. Albans and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his step-mother Kathleen Schnaubelt, his niece Jessica Chaplin, and his step-son Derek Lewis.

David was a free spirited adventurer, and an avid collector of trinkets, he enjoyed working on cars and ‘fixing junk’, he loved playing cribbage with his ‘uncle’ Archie and ‘stealing’ everyone’s money at cards, he enjoyed going trail riding, and spending as much time, with friends, family, and especially his grandchildren, as possible. David also truly admired his work family of 16 years at Frank W. Whitcomb’s where he specialized as a diesel mechanic and was very well known as “Freak”. He was a kind hearted, selfless man who would go above and beyond to help anyone in need.

Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
