Independence, Mo./Swanton, Vt. – , age 47, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 1, 2018 as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born in Rutland, Vt. on May 19, 1971 and is the son of Carleton and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Bessette of Swanton, Vt., who survive him.

He graduated in 1989 from Missisquoi Valley Union High School and joined the United States Air Force.  He served eight years active duty and 14 years in active reserve. He was deployed several times to Iraq and Afghanistan retiring after 22 years of service.  For the past several years he was employed with the United States Post Office as a Mail Handler. He was an avid Yankee and Bronco Fan and enjoyed hunting at his family’s camp in Vermont and fishing with his father and his son Clayton every summer on Lake Champlain.

He is also survived by his wife Marcia, his daughter Shelby of Kansas City and son Clayton of Kessler AFB in Biloxi, Miss.; stepchildren Cassandra and Duke and grandson Beau all of Independence, sisters Suzette Gagne and friend Todd Gregory of St. Albans; Carla and husband Roland Noel of Swanton; nieces Ashley and her husband David Martin of St. Albans; Courtney Gagne of Missoula, Mont. and Kayleigh and Bryanne Noel of Swanton; great-niece Everly Martin of St. Albans, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins; special friend, Michael Cota and his family of Swanton and a special uncle Harold Bessette of Sheldon.

Burial with full Military Honors will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018.  Arrangements are under the care of Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence, Mo.
