ST. ALBANS CITY — With the thermometer above Peoples Trust Company reading a mere 17 degrees, hundreds of elves, Santas, snowmen, Frozen characters, sports teams and dressed up dogs gathered on Kingman Street Thursday night for the fourth annual Running of the Bells.
The event, put on by Peoples Trust Company, the St. Albans Messenger and Northwestern Medical Center and sponsored by more community partners, brought in cash, food and toy donations – even a complete set of the Harry Potter books – for Franklin Grand Isle United Way’s Operation Happiness holiday drive. Participants enjoyed music, a costume contest and one mile walk and run through St. Albans City, and hot chocolate was a welcome reward at the end of the downtown stroll.
“Cotton Eyed Joe” helped warm up the dancing crowd, too.
