MOORPARK, Calif. — Christopher John LaBounty, 40, of Moorpark, Calif. passed away Thursday, June 23 in an accident while pursuing adventure in the Italian Dolomites.

Chris was born in Colorado but grew up in Highgate and graduated from Missisquoi Valley Union in 1993. He earned his Bachelor’s from the University of Vermont in 1997 and his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University of California – Santa Barbara in 2001.

He was the Senior Director of Product Quality Research & Development for Source Photonics where he supervised teams in three different countries. Chris shared his love for the outdoors with his family, hiking, climbing and camping with his wife and two daughters. He also strove to set and achieve extraordinary personal challenges throughout his life.

Chris leaves the love of his life, his wife of 14 years Colleen (Leonard) LaBounty and his two daughters, Mabel, 10 and Anna, 8; father and stepmother, Alan and Judy LaBounty of Franklin; sister, Cynthia and her husband, Shawn Teague of Berkshire; brother, Andrew and wife, Corynn LaBounty of Georgia; step-sisters, Danielle Lawrence of Berkshire and Michelle Robtoy of St. Albans; step-brothers, Steven Lawrence and his wife, Brittany of Fairfax, and Jay Lawrence and his wife, Christie of Swanton; his grandparents, Maurice and Laurea Bonnette of Swanton; his aunt, Guylaine Blanchette and husband, Maurice Goodell of St. Albans; Colleen’s parents, Patrick and Jeanne Leonard of San Diego; sister-in-law, Katie Turner and husband Brian of Wilmington, DE; brother-in-law, Tim Leonard and his fiancée, Sarah Zimmer of San Diego and too many other aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces to list.

Chris was predeceased by his mother, Johanne LaBounty; grandfather, Jean-Paul Blanchette; grandmother, Alphea Blanchette and uncle, Guy Blanchette.

A memorial service will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 242 South Main Street in St. Albans on Tuesday June 28 at 2 p.m. A second service is still being planned in California at a later date. In lieu of flowers Go Fund Me account has been established for Chris’ girls.
