ST. ALBANS — Police are still searching for a suspect involved in a burglary at an occupied Sheldon Road house and stealing a car from the residence early Saturday morning.

According to a St. Albans Police Department statement, a still unidentified suspect entered the home between 12 and 3 a.m. Saturday, after rummaging through two vehicles in the driveway. The suspect entered the home’s mudroom and tried unsuccessfully to get into the house while the occupants were sleeping.

The suspect attempted to hotwire a four-wheeler and a dirt bike, damaging both vehicles in the process.

Eventually, the suspect stole a white 1990 BMW with the keys that had been left in the car.

A be-on-the-lookout alert for the BMW was issued to local police agencies and the incident has been entered into the National Crime Information Center database.

Evidence at the scene includes a backpack, as well as a black Carhart zippered hooded jacket. Police said that nothing recovered from the backpack or jacket provided any leads into the potential identification of the suspect.

Anybody with information regarding the incidents, or the identity of the suspect is asked to call the St. Albans Police Department at 524-2166.
